New Delhi(FNO): India on Friday created history with the launch of its first-ever bullet train, ushering in a transformative era of ultra-fast, modern rail connectivity. The high-speed train, inspired by Japan’s famed Shinkansen technology, was ceremonially flagged off amid much fanfare, marking a landmark moment in the country’s infrastructure journey.
The maiden service operates on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, drastically cutting travel time between the two cities from over six hours to nearly two hours. Capable of running at speeds exceeding 300 kmph, the bullet train promises unmatched safety, comfort, and efficiency.
Addressing the nation at the launch, senior government leaders termed the project a “symbol of a new India,” highlighting its role in boosting economic growth, regional development, and clean transportation. The project is the result of close India–Japan collaboration, with Japanese assistance in technology, training, and financing.
The bullet train features state-of-the-art amenities including automatic train control systems, earthquake detection technology, aerodynamic design, noise-reduction mechanisms, and world-class passenger facilities. Stations along the corridor have been built with modern architecture, integrated urban transport links, and enhanced security systems.
Officials said the project has generated thousands of jobs during construction and will continue to create employment opportunities in operations, maintenance, and allied sectors. The corridor is also expected to spur industrial growth along its route and set new benchmarks for future high-speed rail projects in India.
Railway experts view the launch as a game-changer that positions India among a select group of nations operating bullet trains. Plans are already underway to expand high-speed rail networks to other major corridors across the country.
As the sleek train sped out of the station to applause and cheers, it carried with it not just passengers—but the aspirations of a nation ready to race into the future.
