Abu Dhabi, May 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held high-level bilateral talks with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the United Arab Emirates, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to regional stability, energy security and strategic cooperation amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

During the meeting in Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned the recent attacks targeting the UAE and expressed India’s support for peace and stability in the region. Referring to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Prime Minister said its consequences were being felt across the world, affecting global energy markets, trade routes and economic stability.

“India is ready to extend all possible support to bring peace and stability to the region,” PM Modi said during his discussions with the UAE President.

The visit comes at a crucial time as geopolitical tensions in the Gulf continue to intensify, raising concerns over disruptions in oil supplies, maritime security and international trade through key shipping corridors.

India and the UAE signed several important agreements aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties across strategic sectors. According to officials, the agreements include:

  • Enhanced strategic defence cooperation
  • Expansion of petroleum reserve partnerships
  • Long-term LPG supply arrangements
  • Cooperation in energy security and infrastructure
  •

The agreements are expected to deepen cooperation between the two countries in critical sectors while ensuring greater energy stability for India amid uncertainty in global oil markets.

Energy security emerged as a major focus of the bilateral discussions. India, one of the world’s largest energy importers, has been closely monitoring developments in the Gulf region due to concerns over possible disruptions in crude oil shipments and rising fuel prices.

The UAE remains one of India’s key energy partners and an important supplier of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Officials said both sides discussed mechanisms to maintain uninterrupted energy supplies and strengthen strategic petroleum reserves.

India and the UAE share close diplomatic, economic and strategic ties. Over the past decade, bilateral relations have expanded significantly in areas including trade, defence, technology, infrastructure, renewable energy and investment.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit is being viewed as another step towards strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations at a time of growing global uncertainty and regional instability.
