FUEL CRISIS LIVE: No Hike in Petrol, Diesel Prices; Govt Urges Public Not to Panic

Business   |   Mar 25, 2026

In the wake of rising concerns over a possible fuel crisis, the government on Wednesday firmly denied any increase in petrol and diesel prices, urging citizens to remain calm and avoid misinformation.

Addressing the situation, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), clarified that fuel prices remain stable. “There has been no increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. Do not believe in rumours,” she stated, emphasizing that panic-driven speculation could disrupt normal supply chains.

The statement comes amid heightened public anxiety triggered by unverified reports circulating on social media and messaging platforms. Officials reiterated that fuel distribution across the country continues without disruption.

Providing further updates, the ministry confirmed that significant steps are being taken to strengthen alternative fuel supply. A total of 22,000 tonnes of commercial LPG has been allocated across 26 states, ensuring that businesses and commercial establishments do not face shortages.

In addition, the push toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources is gaining momentum. Over the past 25 days alone, 2.5 lakh new PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections have been approved, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding gas infrastructure nationwide.

In a major policy shift, the government has also introduced a directive aimed at accelerating this transition. Under the new order, household LPG supply may be discontinued in areas where PNG connections are available but not adopted by consumers. The move is intended to reduce dependence on a single fuel source while promoting safer, more efficient gas usage.

Officials believe that expanding the PNG network will not only improve accessibility but also enhance long-term energy security. However, the decision may require households in covered areas to transition sooner than expected.

The government has assured that adequate supplies of all essential fuels are being maintained and that there is no immediate cause for concern. Citizens are advised to rely only on official updates and avoid spreading or acting on unverified information.

As the situation continues to be closely monitored, authorities stress that there is no fuel crisis at present, and normalcy in supply and pricing remains intact.
