Mumbai: In a disturbing incident that has raised concerns over communal tensions and public safety, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai’s Naya Nagar area after allegedly attacking two security guards in the early hours of Monday.

The accused, identified as Zaib Zuber Ansari, reportedly approached the guards stationed at an under-construction building behind Wockhardt Hospital around 4 a.m. According to police sources, Ansari questioned the guards about their religion and demanded that they recite the Kalma (also known as Kalima), a fundamental declaration of faith in Islam.

When the guards—identified as Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen—failed to comply, Ansari allegedly attacked them with a sharp weapon. Both victims sustained serious injuries in the assault and were immediately rushed to Wockhardt Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable but critical.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Ansari may have been influenced by personal frustrations. Sources indicated that he had lived in the United States for several years but returned to India after being unable to secure stable employment. Some of his family members are still believed to reside abroad.

Police officials acted swiftly following the incident and arrested Ansari shortly thereafter. A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and whether the accused acted alone or under any external influence.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken, emphasizing that such acts of violence—especially those targeting individuals based on religion—will not be tolerated.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, prompting increased police vigilance in the area to prevent any escalation of tension.
