Two coaches of the Rampurhat–Jasidih MEMU passenger train derailed on Thursday afternoon while entering Dumka railway station, officials said. The incident occurred around 2:10 pm under the Eastern Railway zone.
No casualties were reported, though two to three passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to Dumka SDM Kaushal Kumar. An electricity pole was also damaged in the derailment.
The train, which left Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district at 12:50 pm, was evacuated soon after the mishap. Most passengers proceeded to their destinations by road. Railway teams are currently carrying out track and electrical repair work, and efforts are underway to lift the derailed coaches, officials added.
