The West Bengal government organised the mega event, titled Uma Agamani, blending Bengal’s rich cultural heritage with modern technology and entertainment.

The celebration marked a significant moment for the city, where Mahalaya traditionally signals the countdown to Durga Puja, the most eagerly awaited festival in Bengal.

3,000 Dhakis Create a Historic Musical Moment

One of the biggest highlights of the evening was the synchronised performance of approximately 3,000 traditional dhakis, whose powerful drumbeats filled the stadium with festive energy. The massive gathering of drummers created a memorable spectacle celebrating Bengal’s centuries-old musical traditions.

The performance earned the event recognition in the Guinness World Records, making it a landmark moment for Bengal’s cultural celebrations.

The rhythmic beats of the dhak, accompanied by the sounds of conch shells and traditional performances, recreated the distinctive atmosphere of Durga Puja and brought the spirit of Mahalaya alive for thousands of spectators.

Drone Show Illuminates Kolkata’s Sky

The evening featured an impressive drone display that illuminated the sky above Eden Gardens. Hundreds of synchronised lights formed striking images, including Goddess Durga in her Mahishasuramardini form.

The event also included elaborate lighting, laser effects, visual projections and fireworks, combining modern technology with the spiritual significance of the festival.

The spectacular presentation symbolised the victory of good over evil and the arrival of Maa Durga to her earthly home.

Star-Studded Musical Performances

Music added another dimension to the celebration, with renowned performers entertaining the audience. Composer Shantanu Moitra, singer Shaan, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Antara Mitra, Lagnajita Chakraborty and folk ensemble Dohar were among the featured artists.

Their performances brought together contemporary music, traditional Bengali sounds and folk influences, reflecting the diversity of Bengal’s cultural identity.

The programme attracted widespread attention, with audiences enjoying an evening that combined devotional sentiment, artistic expression and large-scale entertainment.

Red Road Adds to the Festive Atmosphere

The celebrations extended beyond Eden Gardens, with a colourful procession and cultural displays along Red Road. Themed pavilions showcased the cultural heritage and traditions of different districts of West Bengal, adding to the festive atmosphere across central Kolkata.

Authorities implemented extensive security and crowd-management arrangements to handle the large gathering and ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
