BANGLADESH RESTRICTS VISA SERVICES FOR INDIANS AMID GROWING TENSIONS: REPORT

World   |   Jan 08, 2026

Bangladesh has reportedly imposed restrictions on visa services for Indian nationals, signalling a fresh strain in bilateral relations between the two South Asian neighbours. According to reports, visa processing at several Bangladeshi missions in India has been scaled down or selectively restricted, affecting tourists, business travellers and short-term visitors.

While no formal public notification has been issued by Dhaka, sources indicate that the move follows rising diplomatic unease and recent developments that have added friction to India–Bangladesh ties.

Diplomatic observers link the restrictions to growing political and strategic tensions, including disagreements over regional security, border management, trade issues and broader geopolitical alignments. The development also comes amid heightened sensitivities in South Asia, where domestic politics and external influences are increasingly shaping foreign policy decisions.

Bangladesh has historically maintained close ties with India, but analysts note that recent months have seen more assertive messaging from Dhaka, reflecting internal political pressures and regional recalibration.

The reported visa curbs highlight rising diplomatic caution between India and Bangladesh, with potential consequences for travel, trade and regional stability if tensions persist.
