India Suspends Visa Applications Indefinitely in Bangladesh’s Chittagong

World   |   Dec 21, 2025

India has indefinitely suspended the acceptance of visa applications at its Assistant High Commission in Chittagong, Bangladesh, following a recent security incident at the diplomatic facility, official sources said.

The decision came into effect on December 21, days after the incident raised concerns over the safety of personnel and visitors at the mission. While authorities have not disclosed detailed information about the nature of the incident, officials said the move was taken as a precautionary measure.

Existing visa services at the Chittagong mission have been halted until further notice. Applicants have been advised to monitor official updates for information regarding the resumption of services or alternative arrangements.

Indian authorities are reportedly reviewing the security situation in coordination with local agencies. No timeline has been announced for the restoration of visa operations.

The suspension is expected to impact travellers, students, and business applicants from the Chittagong region who were seeking Indian visas.
