on-AC Railway Passengers to Pay ₹10 More for 500-km Journey from December 26

Indian Railways has announced a rationalisation of its passenger fare structure, with revised ticket rates coming into effect from December 26, 2025, officials said.

Under the new fare structure, non-AC class passengers will have to pay an additional ₹10 for a journey of up to 500 kilometres. The revision forms part of Indian Railways’ broader effort to streamline fares while balancing operational costs.

Officials clarified that the fare adjustment is modest in nature and aimed at ensuring financial sustainability without placing a significant burden on passengers. The revised rates will apply across applicable non-AC passenger categories.

Indian Railways said further details regarding fare slabs and class-wise revisions will be communicated through official notifications. Passengers have been advised to check updated fares while booking tickets for travel on or after December 26.

The move marks the first such fare rationalisation in recent times and is expected to impact millions of daily commuters across the country.
