THAILAND DECLARES COASTAL CURFEW AS BORDER FIGHTING WITH CAMBODIA ESCALATES

Bangkok (FNO): Thailand has imposed a curfew along parts of its coastline after border fighting with neighbouring Cambodia escalated, raising fears of a wider security flare-up in the region.

Thai military officials said clashes intensified near the coastal border areas, prompting authorities to tighten security and restrict civilian movement. As part of its response, Thai forces claimed they destroyed a key bridge allegedly used by Cambodia to transport heavy weapons and military equipment into the contested zone.

According to the Thai military, an operation was also launched targeting pre-positioned artillery units in Cambodia’s coastal Koh Kong Province, which lies close to the Thai border. The strikes were aimed at preventing further reinforcement and curbing the spread of hostilities, officials said.

Cambodia has not immediately responded to Thailand’s claims, while regional observers are closely monitoring the situation amid concerns that prolonged fighting could destabilise the border region.

Authorities on both sides have urged civilians to remain away from sensitive areas as security forces stay on high alert.
