RUSSIA LAUNCHES MASSIVE MISSILE, DRONE ATTACK ON UKRAINE AS PEACE TALKS PRESS ON

Russia unleashed one of its largest aerial barrages in months on Monday, firing 51 missiles and 653 drones across multiple regions of Ukraine, even as diplomatic efforts to end the war continued with fresh rounds of talks involving U.S. officials.

Ukrainian authorities reported that at least eight people were injured in the overnight assault, which targeted energy infrastructure, residential areas, and industrial zones. Emergency crews battled fires and worked to restore power in several cities after critical facilities were hit.

The Ukrainian Air Force said a majority of the drones were intercepted, but several missiles broke through air defences, causing widespread damage. Local officials described the attack as “relentless” and warned of potential rolling blackouts as the country braces for further strikes.

The escalation came at a sensitive diplomatic moment. U.S. envoys and Russian representatives were engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions aimed at exploring conditions for a possible ceasefire. Analysts noted that the latest strikes could be intended to strengthen Russia’s bargaining position or test Ukraine’s defence capabilities ahead of winter.

While Washington reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kyiv, it also stressed the importance of pursuing avenues for a negotiated resolution. Ukrainian leaders, however, said Moscow’s continued attacks cast doubt on its willingness to engage in sincere peace efforts.

As clean-up operations continued, officials urged civilians to remain vigilant amid fears of additional waves of strikes in the coming days.
