New Delhi: Security agencies across the national capital have been placed on high alert following intelligence inputs warning of a possible terror plot targeting areas near the Red Fort. According to sources, the threat is believed to be linked to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Officials familiar with the development said the intelligence alert indicates a potential plan to carry out a blast in or around the historic monument, which remains one of the most sensitive and heavily guarded locations in the city.
Following the alert, Delhi Police, along with central security agencies, has intensified surveillance and security checks in and around the Red Fort and other prominent landmarks. Additional personnel have been deployed, and vehicle checking drives have been stepped up at key entry and exit points across the city.
Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams have also been placed on standby as a precautionary measure.
Sources indicated that the alert emerged from intercepted communications and other intelligence assessments suggesting possible movement or coordination linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives. However, officials have not publicly disclosed specific operational details, citing security concerns.
Authorities stressed that the alert is precautionary in nature and that no immediate threat has been confirmed so far.
The intelligence warning has prompted security reviews not only in Delhi but also in other major metropolitan cities. Police forces have been directed to remain vigilant and to increase patrolling in crowded areas, marketplaces, transportation hubs, and tourist attractions.
Senior officials are reportedly holding regular review meetings to assess the situation and coordinate response strategies.
While urging citizens not to panic, authorities have appealed to the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity or unattended objects to the nearest police station.
“The situation is under control, and all necessary preventive steps have been taken,” a senior official said.
The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of national pride, routinely witnesses heightened security due to its historical significance and regular public gatherings, including Independence Day celebrations.
Investigations and intelligence monitoring continue as agencies work to neutralize any potential threat.
