Trump Says U.S. Will Take Greenland ‘One Way or the Other’

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said the United States will take control of Greenland “one way or the other,” calling the mineral-rich Danish territory critical to American national security amid rising Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic.

 

Mr. Trump argued that Greenland’s strategic location and rare earth resources are vital as global powers expand their military presence and compete for influence over Arctic routes. He warned that the U.S. cannot allow rivals to dominate the region.

 

Greenland is an autonomous territory under Denmark, which has repeatedly rejected any proposal to transfer sovereignty, insisting the island’s future rests with its people. The remarks have drawn criticism from European leaders, who view them as provocative.
