VB-G Bill promises 125 days of guaranteed wage employment per rural household; aligns rural development with Viksit Bharat @2047 vision

The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025 (VB-G Bill) signals a significant increase in state government spending, with the proposed law laying down a comprehensive rural development framework aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

The legislation seeks to provide a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment in every financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to undertake unskilled manual work. The stated objective is to drive empowerment, inclusive growth, convergence of schemes, and saturation of benefits, aimed at building a prosperous and resilient rural Bharat.

According to the Bill, the new programme will aggregate public works into a Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack, with a strong thematic focus on water security, including water-related works, core rural infrastructure, livelihood-supporting assets, and special interventions to mitigate extreme weather events.

If implemented, the VB-G framework is expected to reshape rural employment policy, strengthen climate resilience, and accelerate infrastructure creation across India’s villages.
