Kolkata (India) (FNO): In a move set to impact millions of voters across the country, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially extended the deadline for submitting enumeration forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Originally scheduled to end on December 4, the submission window will now remain open until December 11, 2025, offering citizens an additional week to complete and hand over their forms to the designated Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The extension is significant, as the SIR process currently covers 12 states and Union Territories, including:
These regions represent a substantial segment of India’s electorate, making the extra time crucial for ensuring comprehensive and error-free voter-roll updates.
The SIR exercise is one of the ECI’s most extensive voter-list verification drives, aimed at updating entries, removing inaccuracies, and enrolling new eligible voters. With millions of forms needing verification at the grassroots level, the additional week is expected to ease pressure on both administrators and citizens.
As India prepares for the next electoral cycle, this extension provides voters another opportunity to ensure that their democratic identity is accurately represented where it matters most the electoral roll.
