PUTIN’S INDIA VISIT POISED TO REVIVE MAJOR DEFENCE DEALS

World   |   Dec 02, 2025

New Delhi (FNO) : Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 4–5, 2025, with defence cooperation set to dominate the agenda. High-level talks are expected on two major platforms - Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighters and additional S-400 air-defence systems -signalling a potential boost to India’s next-phase military modernisation.

India is likely to push for more S-400 units, faster delivery of pending squadrons, and expanded local maintenance. Discussions on the Su-57 are expected to cover possible induction or co-production, along with rare technology transfer involving engines, avionics, stealth materials and radar systems.

Officials say the summit may not yield immediate contracts but will set the roadmap for long-term cooperation. If negotiations progress, the deals could significantly strengthen India’s air-defence shield and position the IAF for a major generational leap in air power.

Putin’s visit underscores the continued strategic weight of the India-Russia partnership - and could shape the trajectory of defence ties for the next decade.
