Kutch: A young woman was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend after she became pregnant and pressed him to marry her, with the accused later dumping her body into a village well with the help of a friend in Gujarat’s Kutch district, police said.
Both accused have been arrested and booked for murder. Further investigation is underway.
According to police, the main accused, identified as Rajesh, had been in a relationship with the woman — a resident of the same village — for nearly a year. Investigators said the two had intimate relations during this period, following which the woman became pregnant while she was still a minor.
After attaining adulthood, she allegedly asked Rajesh to marry her and warned that she would approach the police if he refused. The demand reportedly led to repeated disputes between them.
Investigators said Rajesh later contacted the woman through social media and asked her to meet him at night, allegedly assuring her that they would elope and get married.
When she reached the designated spot on the outskirts of the village, he allegedly overpowered and strangled her, while his friend, identified as Rahul, assisted him.
Police said the accused tied a scarf around the victim’s waist, attached a heavy stone to it, and threw her body into a water-filled well in an attempt to destroy evidence.
After the woman went missing, her family lodged a complaint with the police. During the investigation, suspicion reportedly fell on Rajesh due to his known relationship with the victim.
Police said sustained questioning led to his alleged confession. Fire department personnel were later called to assist in the search operation, and after several hours, the body was recovered from the well.
Both accused are currently in police custody. Officials said further investigation is being conducted to gather forensic and digital evidence related to the case.
